“They may change the foreman, the butler or the chief herdsman, but the finca owner is the same.”  EZLN

Facing the recent escalation of violence, repression and paramilitary attacks by the Regional Organization of Ocosingo Coffee Growers (ORCAO) against the bases of support of the EZLN in the “Lucio Cabañas” Autonomous Municipality, as well as the recent attacks of the paramilitary group “Paz y Justicia” carried out in the Tila Ejido, which resulted in the murder of our companion Pedro Alejandro Jiménez Pérez and the wounding with firearms of our compani@ns and members of CNI-CIG Medardo Pérez Jiménez, Ángel Vázquez Ramírez and Jaime Lugo Pérez; and

Since these attacks are part of a counterinsurgency plan developed within government spheres to foment the proliferation of paramilitary groups, linked to organized crime and under the auspices of financial capital, all of it performed as an open declaration of war against the EZLN, against the Zapatista “Autonomy of People and Indigenous Commmunities,” against the resistance and organization of peoples, barrios, tribes, nations and communities of the National Indigenous Congress-Indigenous Government Council, because they all oppose the imposition of deadly megaprojects such as the Maya Train, the Interoceanic Corridor, the Santa Lucía International Airport, the Morelos Integral Project, the Dos Bocas Refinery and the militarization of the country, we therefore today

Convene the following encounter:

Brothers and Sisters:

Various groups, networks of resistance and rebellion, and organizations and individuals who are members of the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle in Mexico and the world, have decided to initiate this 2nd Global Action Encounter on September 16 in order to denounce that the celebration of Independence for those above represents, for those below, the plundering of Life, the militarization of our Territories and a war against the People. In view of this, we affirm that: WE HAVE NOTHING TO CELEBRATE ON INDEPENDENCE DAY, except for “that other cry of the other independence we are building” SCIM. We will close these activities on September 20 because we do not forget, do not forgive and do not betray the memory of our brother Samir Flores Soberanes, whose life was snatched by The Man because Samir defended Mother Earth and fought against the deadly megaprojects.

Finally, in the context of this 2nd Global Action and in the midst of the grave crisis in public health due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, not only is the economic crisis getting worse and the unemployment index rising, but there are no signs of a fast economic recovery in the medium term; on the contrary, what we see is a serious crisis of Human Rights and a systematic violation of individual rights; the State is institutionalizing, as a policy, the criminalization of social protest while there is a disproportionate rise in acts of repression carried out by security authorities at the state or federal level—as was seen in the case of the compañeras who, demanding an end to gender violence, were repressed because they took over some of the offices of the National Human Rights Commission in the states and in México D.F.  We can include here also recent acts of repression against the students from the teachers training college in Tripetío, Michoacán; the attacks against the CNI, such as the CIPOG-EZ, by paramilitary and organized crime groups and, on the eve of the sixth anniversary of the forced disappearance of the 43 teacher training students in Ayotzinapa, we denounce there is no Truth and there is no Justice for our brothers.
